Ecology

Ecology follows naturally from evolution. The tree of life describes how living things have evolved from a single common ancestor, and the food web of life describes how all living things depend on one another at any given point in time. Also, ecological interactions shape the forces of natural selection acting on a population, and can therefore determine the direction of evolution. We view ecology as including the role of humans in our changing global ecosystems, and how our lifestyle choices can impact biodiversity. We have found that children of all ages can be introduced to complex ecologial concepts such as preditor-prey dynamics, ecological niches, and ecosystem services.
